The tribes of Israel stood guilty before their God. Daniel knew from the Law of Moses that God had kept His Word. Daniel didn’t blame God. Instead, he prayerfully confessed the righteousness of God. Daniel considered it more important for God to uphold His Word than it was for God’s people to escape the consequences of their sin.

The Hebrew people had spurned the grace and mercy of God. Remarkably, it was that same mercy and grace that Daniel appealed to on behalf of his people.

Prayer works when it gives us a greater sense of the majesty and glory of God. Prayer works when it arouses in us an awesome sense of the forgiving grace of God. Prayer works when it helps us to be thankful for the gift of life. Prayer works when it leads us to pray for others.
