Stories from the Church

The situation was a little hard to believe. While the handful of people in the Church I was about to Pastor were voting, I was upstairs in that same church with a new family. We had more people with us than the Church had in their business meeting. The Lord was giving us just what we needed: a large family with love rooted in them. We had many difficult days ahead, but we had a core family that would become an integral part of the Church. This was a game-changer to have Mike and Mindy with us, but one of the stories that happened that first year in their home still haunts me to this day.

Mike and Mindy have five beautiful children. Mindy’s mother (Jean) was also staying with them until she could get her own place. Jean had some hard times under her belt. Her husband had passed, her home on the Yukon River had been destroyed in a flood, and she had been battling throat cancer. Jean also had a trach (tracheostomy tube) that she spoke through.

One night Jean began to cough in bed. People cough all the time, so this was nothing too unusual. Until it was discovered that the reason for the tickle in her throat was a spider. Her coughing shot the spider free, and it came crawling out of her trach!
